Perched at the crest of a hill in Malibu, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the 7,979 square foot dining hall was constructed as a replacement facility of the former dining hall that was destroyed by fire in 2005. The project consists of a dining hall, meeting room, classroom, a commercial kitchen and a re-configured restroom wing.

The design challenge was to keep the exact look of the former facility as required by the California Coastal Commission while bringing the building up to all current Building, Seismic, Health and ADA codes. All that remained of the existing facility were the exterior stone pilasters and the central stone fireplace and poured-in-place concrete hearth.  The new facility now has a completely re-configured, 1,264 SF state-of-the-art commercial kitchen. The new lighting system was designed to be as energy efficient as possible given current technology.
