VENTURA COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT <br/> FIRE STATION FEASIBILITY STUDY

The Ventura County Fire Protection District commissioned a comprehensive study to address the volatile state of the construction industry, the escalating bid climate and subsequent construction costs that occurred in 2002.

Prototype floor plans for both a two-story and one-story fire station were developed. Each prototype was evaluated based on four different construction methodologies:

  • WOOD-FRAMED CONSTRUCTION
  • LIGHT-GAUGES STEEL FRAME CONSTRUTION
  • MODULAR STEEL CONSTRUCTION
  • PRE-ENGINEERED CONSTRUCTION

Designs were coordinated directly with Dresden Framing Systems Inc. as well as Mod-Tech Inc.

The cost analysis of each construction methodology and the site implications of each prototype served as the basis for several other fire stations the district is scheduled to build.

Donnie DeWees completed this project while a Project Design Director at a previous firm.
