The Mystery Bookstore is a tenant improvement inside of the Westside Pavilion in West Los Angeles. Inspired by the iconography of a literal question mark and the requisite magnifying glass of a sleuth, the storefront of the retail store is designed to depict a fog-covered, windy London side street.
An over-scaled, abstract magnifying glass appears as a soffit floating above the front counter. An inglenook serves as customer seating in the rear of the store while illustrations of famous, historic mystery writers hide secrete book shelves…furthering the idea of a “mystery”, in and of itself.
