Accessory Dwelling Units (A.D.U.'s) and Additions
The Mathews Residence is a 700 Square Foot A.D.U. (Accessory Dwelling Unit) located in the City of South Pasadena, California. The A.D.U. is being developed as part of the new California A.D.U. Legislation under the following new regulations:
- Assembly Bill 68 and 881
- Senate Bill 13
- Assembly Bill 670
These new regulations are intended to loosen existing A.D.U regulations in an effort to create much needed housing in Southern California.
The Mathews Residence A.D.U. has been designed as a potential two-bedroom, one bathroom guest house or “granny flat” which could also be configured as a one-bedroom, one bathroom guest house with an adjoining studio or office space. The architectural language of the A.D.U. draws inspiration from the existing main single-family residence through the use of its roof forms as well as matching exterior materials and colors. The A.D.U. is planned to incorporate solar panels and the latest in technology for energy efficient home management.
