CITY OF ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT – POLICE HEADQUARTERS REMODEL

IDS GROUP
CITY OF ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT – POLICE HEADQUARTERS REMODEL

This design proposal is for the current headquarters of the City of Orange Police Department and consists of the removal of the roof structure of the existing entry lobby and the proposed introduction of a new saw-toothed roof structure constructed of exposed steel trusses and a standing seam metal roof.  The saw-toothed roof provides two primary functional ideas: One, is to allow natural north light to pour into the existing lobby and two, the ability to use the sloped, south-facing metal roof elements for a photovoltaic panel system.  The front lobby is monumental wall of glass with the careful intrusion of a blue, metal paneled entry piece, the color drawn from the blue of police uniforms, that addresses the human scale of those who enter the building.

The entire interior of the front lobby will also be re-designed to provide a more welcoming entrance while still providing a space that suggests the idea of strength in the use of exposed steel trussed to support the saw-toothed roof.

The skillful blending of very technical ideas with a very artistic ideas into one cohesive idea is the strength of this project.  DeWees Design was honored to provide this design solution to the honorable men and women of the City of Orange Police Department who indeed “Protect and Serve” the citizenry of the City of Orange and hopes that this project comes to fruition some day soon.

Donnie DeWees designed this project while a Project Design Director for another firm.
