Fire Stations and Emergency Response Facilities
CITY OF ORANGE
ORANGE FIRE DEPARTMENT
FIRE STATION #4

The scope of work for Fire Station #4 was primarily the replacement of the existing Apparatus Room in order to accommodate taller fire apparatus, a very prevalent change to existing fire stations built in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The design challenge of the project was to re-build the current apparatus bay with a larger and taller bay by accommodating the 24′-0″ wide x 14′-0″ tall apparatus bay door. The expansion and upgrade of the fire station also consisted of the demolition of the existing wood-frame apparatus bay and the construction of an expansion constructed with more durable concrete masonry units in order to provide additional space for turnout storage, an exercise room and a larger and taller apparatus bay. The existing dorm rooms and crew restroom facilities were also remodeled in order to comply with current ADA Standards.

The design of the new exterior at the front of the station facing the public street drew it’s inspiration from the existing mid-century modern language of the original fire station by drawing clues from the window fenestration at the existing entry for the new front of the Apparatus Room.
