ANAHEIM EXPRESS CAR WASH – ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA

The Anaheim Express Car Wash is located at the bustling corner of Beach Blvd. and Ball Road.  The car wash building has been pushed towards the back of the site to create optimal area in front for the required vehicular circulation and to provide as many vacuum arches as possible.  This also allows for a substantial amount of landscaping along Ball Road.

The design of the wash tunnel itself is based on two colliding “wedge-shaped” building masses punctuate by a series of small windows along the southern facade to let natural light into the wash tunnel.  The support portions of the building are contained in a smaller, linear, concrete masonry unit bar of space located in front of the wash tunnel.  The design of the entire project makes reference to the traditional aesthetic of some of the old “Googie” car washes that were ubiquitous in Southern California.  The sign of the former 1950’s styled motel that was located on the site was re-purposed as the Car Wash monument sign facing Beach Blvd.
