CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH PUBLIC RESTROOMS STUDY

CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH PUBLIC RESTROOMS STUDY

This Conceptual Design was generated in response to the City of Huntington Beach RFP.   The project is the study of all fifteen public restrooms that are located along a three-mile stretch of Huntington Beach between Seapoint Street and Beach Boulevard.  A public restroom prototype would be established that would be repeated up and down the extent of the beach.  Several of the locations would be incorporated into existing food and beverage facilities.

DESIGN TEAM:

TAIT & ASSOCITES – Donnie DeWees – Project Design Director

The Concept behind the design is to draw from the surfing culture that has defined the City of Huntington Beach for the last 70+ years.  By drawing clues from actual surfing maneuvers, a simple architectural vocabulary has been created comprised of, “wave”, “board”, “surer” and “shore”.  This architectural vocabulary would be repeated and re-interpreted up and down the extent of the beach thus tying all of the facilities together as one cohesive whole.   A drought-tolerant and low-maintenance landscape palette that was reflective of an “under the sea world” would augment each of the fifteen sites.
