The Palm Avenue Market was the re-imagining of a much beloved Neighborhood Market located within the Historic District of the City of Orange, California. The design is conceived as reference to local neighborhood markets located within the historic neighborhoods of New York City, San Francisco and Paris, France…while paying specific homages to the historic fabric of the City of Orange.
Portions of the interiors of the market were designed to be reminiscent of neighborhood candy stores and ice cream parlors. One portion of the shelving will on certain days be dedicated to Orange Home Grown, the local Farmer’s Market. A low wall of antique wooden orange crates with labels from historic City of Orange packinghouses mark the entry to the building while concealing the required ADA ramp into the market.
The exterior of the existing building was updated to reflect the Neighborhood Market motif with the addition of intricate, colorful woodwork and a bright, orange awning at the ramped entry to the building.
