This project for the City of Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency consists of 138 affordable housing units. Inspired by the colorful desert horizons and the hope that those vistas may bring to lower-income residents, this project instantly became an improvement to an otherwise blighted area of Palm Dessert.
Donnie DeWees designed the project while a Project Design Director for another firm.
The introduction of soft, arched openings in otherwise solid wall masses help give the individual units their own identities within the whole of the project. Individually composed openings give mere glimpses into the internal spaces while providing privacy and much needed shade. Given the desert climate, common outdoor areas are utilized throughout the project and the colors of the adjacent desert are reflected in the colors of the buildings.
