The Interiors for a Fire Station are critical to the mission of each individual Fire Authority. Fire Stations are not only their workplace but they are also their homes for 24-hour shifts. There are public spaces and private spaces to consider. The introduction of either bright red colors or blue and yellow colors, deliberate references to the fire apparatus assigned to each station are prevalent in number of the Fire Stations shown here.
Donnie DeWees has always taken a technical approach as well as an artistic approach to the Interiors of Fire Stations. Custom light fixtures fashioned from synthetic fire hoses and brass fire nozzles have occupied stairwells and a custom surfboard dining room table was created for a Fire Station just steps from the beach. The large kitchens which serve as the heart of the living quarters portions of the Fire Station are designed with incredibly durable materials such as stainless steel countertops and phenolic millwork.
