Nestled into a hillside of Malibu facing the Pacific Coast Highway, the Pacific Ocean looming in the foreground, Fire Station #56 proudly serves the community of Malibu as well as the eastern portions of Ventura County.
The initial design concept behind the project was inspired by the lifeguard towers that dot the area beaches. These towers are referenced by the use of light monitors, located at strategic points of the fire station, which wash natural light into the interior spaces.
The landscape design for the fire station serves as a model of fire resistant and low water use planting materials as an educational demonstration for the general public.
